ABOUT THE ROLE
ALPA Construction is searching for a talented Senior Tax Accountant specializing in sales and use tax. He/she will be primarily responsible for establishing company-wide sales and use tax procedures, providing guidance for sales and use tax for multiple states, including at a minimum IL, TX, AZ, TN, ND, MA, IN, NC, LA, VA, CA, MI and WA. This individual will handle the day-to-day responsibilities of tax guidance and research, production of tax provision calculations, Sales and Use Tax Filings for all applicable states, coordinating year-end tax requests and tax audit requests (as applicable), corporate registrations and other accounting duties, as assigned. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
Provide guidance for sales and use tax on a national level (currently ~12 states), including taxability and rates for services provided.
Establish Company-wide sales and use tax procedures for review and approval by Chief Financial Officer.
Develop and streamline procedures and worksheets for tax provision calculations.
File sales and use tax returns in line with state requirements (monthly, quarterly or annual) and submission of payments.
Ensure accuracy of employer related tax filings. These are prepared and filed by our payroll provider, but the Senior Tax Accountant will confirm and verify the payroll provider’s calculations and be intimately involved in tax issue resolution.
Recommends tax strategies by researching state and local taxation issues.
Update job knowledge by seeking out and participating in educational opportunities.
Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records.
Organize and maintain record of tax payments.
Other accounting and tax duties may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree is a plus
Certified Public Accountant license or similar certification is preferred
Minimum of 5-7 years of proven work experience as a Tax Accountant, Tax Analyst or Tax Preparer, including:
Strong knowledge of tax law on a state level
Experience with multiple state tax return filings
Experience with researching tax issues
Public accounting experience preferred
Construction or related industry experience preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 is required; experience with Sage Construction and Real Estate 300 and Procore Construction software preferred
Must have excellent communication skills and a natural ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment
Must be self-sufficient, detail oriented and highly organized
Must have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
Strong sense of urgency and need for accuracy required
